Spring Break
March
LAND hosts the presentation of a group of discrete sculptures by emerging Kansas City-based artists installed throughout the space for varying durations within the month of March. Philosophically, this approach embraces the flexible, open, and defiant historical spirit of the artist-run space.
Each work reflects the space’s unique architectural fixtures - addressing both functionality and ornament – as well as playfully referencing the practical dual-purpose of the gallery space as living rooms in a functional residence.
Hannah Carr is an artist and designer whose work critically explores the relationship between aesthetics and functionality through illusion and surface manipulation. Hannah creates design objects and wearables under her studio moniker Earwack. She was also the Co-Director of the artist-run space Juice Box. Hannah received her BFA in 2014 from the Kansas City Art Institute and was a Charlotte Street Foundation studio resident in 2016.
Rachel Ferber is an artist and designer. Her work combines elements of garment design, video, sculpture, performance; and graphic, sound and set design. She is a co-curator at PLUG Projects, and currently teaches graphic design and video production as the Digital Design Instructor at MINDDRIVE. She holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from Pacific Northwest College of Art.
Adam Lucas is a graphic designer and educator. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Kansas City Art Institute; design-volunteer at Imagine That!; a co-curator of PLUG Projects; and one-half of NEW NEW NEW, a joint art and design initiative with Rachel Ferber. He received an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and a BA from Kenyon College.
Jen Wilkinson is an artist and designer whose handcrafted work involves highly detailed manipulation of common sculptural materials into surprisingly simple forms that reference familiar objects, plants, creatures, and basic shapes. Jen founded Wilky Way as a retail line of jewelry and accessories. Her work is in the Ken Ferguson Teaching Collection as well as the Belger Collection at the Belger Arts Center in Kansas City. Jen is a 2014 graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute with a BFA in Ceramic sculpture.
