Brigid Moore

LAND is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition by the New York-based artist Brigid Moore. The exhibition presents a comprehensive group of recent oil paintings installed inside and outdoors that each carefully depict a discrete recognizable subject or scene, such as a pair of two young ice skaters, a frog atop a lily pad, a cat drinking from a wine glass, among others.
Brigid describes her process as:
Giving these forms a body in my work lets me untangle my cloud of associations with familiar forms and characters. This process creates just enough clarity for me to in turn find new subjects and narratives to familiarize and de-familiarize.
Through expressive brushwork, abstract qualities and symbolism are emphasized within her real-life subject matter - occupying an exceptionally contemporary dichotomy of grace and delicacy inflected by mystery and melancholy.
Brigid Moore (b.1988 New York) lives, and works in New York, NY. Selected exhibitions include 'The Window of the Breath Which Lets in the Divine' at Alyssa Davis Gallery in New York, 'The Fence' at Sinkhole Project in Baltimore, 'Vi Ser Pa Kunst' at NADA New York, ‘Weird Sisters’ at Francis Boeske in Amsterdam, and ‘Fade Into You’ at The Java Project in Brooklyn. Last winter she participated as artist in residence at The Macedonia Institute in Chatham, NY.
